Biography

From his home base in Maple Grove, Minnesota, this 51-year-old desert racing veteran has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in SCORE's ultra-competitive Pro UTV divisions. His recent class victory at the 2023 King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250 in Pro UTV Open demonstrates his continued ability to adapt and excel across different UTV categories.

Scanlon's most significant achievement came in 2019 when he captured the SCORE Baja 500 class championship in Pro UTV Forced Induction, conquering the challenging Ensenada desert course that has claimed countless competitors. This victory showcased his mastery of forced induction technology and tactical desert racing strategy.

His elite-level competitiveness reached new heights in 2022 with back-to-back podium performances at SCORE's two most prestigious events. A second-place class finish at the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 followed by a third-place result at the SCORE Baja 500 proved his ability to perform under the intense pressure of Mexico's most demanding desert races.

Racing primarily in the Pro UTV Forced Induction category, Scanlon has consistently demonstrated the technical expertise and mental fortitude required to compete at SCORE's highest levels, making him a formidable competitor in every race he enters.

Congratulations Craig Scanlon, for being the Pro UTV Forced Induction winner at the 2019 SCORE Baja 500!

SHAKEN AND STIRRED | December 2022 Issue

As the competition gets tougher in the SCORE Pro UTV Classes, it became more difficult for any one team to make it to the podium at each of the four SCORE races this season. While a few racers remained somewhat consistent by getting on the podium in every race, it all got shaken up at the 55th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts, when more competition entered for this one race, and the tough course dealt a blow to some teams. RACING IN THE MUD | October 2022 Issue

For SCORE’s Pro UTV racers, the course before Hurricane Kay hit the area was much different than it was on race day. While the rain had stopped about a week before the start of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels, sections had been washed out or became muddy. Moto and Quad classes simply went around certain muddy areas, and the SCORE Trophy Trucks and Buggies simply had enough power and tire to blast right through them. So by the time the Pro UTV classes got onto the course, there were deep pits of mud, slush, and rocks dug up by the previous classes. Read More

THE UPWARD CULTURE | May 2022 Issue

Wayne Matlock's shockingly fast six-hour and eight-minute finish in Pro UTV Open, led the way for other racers to also finish faster than before. Mike Cafro in the No, 1876 Polaris RZR Turbo S, is one of several racers who moved into the Open class this season, after receiving the 2021 Pro UTV Stock Championship. Despite not feeling like he was settling into his driving rhythm, Cafro nonetheless had an incredible race, finishing 16-minutes behind Matlock. Read More

The First Win is the Best | June 2019 Issue

SCORE PRO UTV FI racer Craig Scanlon pulled off one of the most nail-biting finishes of his racing career by taking a class win at the 51st SCORE Baja 500. The win was Scanlon's first at an official SCORE event, racing against some of the biggest names in off-road desert racing, despite having to wait until the official results were tallied before he could celebrate. "Winning the SCORE Baja 500 to me is like winning the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup," said Scanlon. "I was troubled with those racers starting ahead of us because I didn’t think I was going to be able to weave past the bottlenecks to catch the leaders. I started near the back of the field."
