At just 27 years old, this San Ysidro, California native has already established himself as a formidable force in SCORE International desert racing. His breakthrough moment came at the 2021 SCORE Baja 500, where he secured a hard-earned second place class finish, earning his first podium in one of off-road racing's most prestigious events.

Competing in the grueling Baja Peninsula races that have challenged racers for over five decades, Negrete Jr. has proven his mettle against some of the sport's most legendary competitors. His 2021 Baja 500 podium finish came during a season noted for its technical challenges, where simply finishing was an accomplishment, making his class runner-up position even more impressive.

The young racer embodies the next generation of SCORE competitors who continue the rich tradition of Baja desert racing that began with pioneers like Dave Ekins and Bill Roberson in 1962. 2021 Baja 500 CLASS 5-1600 | July 2021 Issue

If the 466-mile course was brutal enough for some of the vehicles with lots of suspension and horsepower, it was that much tougher for the 5-1600 class competitors. Out of a field of five competitors at this race, it was an epic battle between the well-experienced team of Larry Negrete Jr. in the No. 557 car, and the 559 car of Alejandro Medina. After more than 18-hours of driving, Medina and his team won the class. Their final time was 18:42:25 and averaged 24.91 mph on the course. Aiding Medina were co-drivers Ramon Fernandez, Antonio Espinosa, Alejandro Medina Jr., Mario Carrillo Haro, and Abraham Saldate. Read More
