For SCORE’s Pro UTV racers, the course before Hurricane Kay hit the area was much different than it was on race day. While the rain had stopped about a week before the start of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels, sections had been washed out or became muddy. Moto and Quad classes simply went around certain muddy areas, and the SCORE Trophy Trucks and Buggies simply had enough power and tire to blast right through them. At the King Shocks 35th SCORE San Felipe 250, Wayne Matlock in his No. 1871 Polaris RZR Pro R finished the race with a time of 6:08:50, winning the SCORE Pro UTV Overall and Pro UTV Open class. The extremely fast finish time, however, was better than half of the Class 10 competitors and faster than all but one of the Class 7 competitors in this race. Read More
More than 60 Pro UTV teams attempted to take on the 54th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. Some were there to challenge the peninsula, others had a class championship on the line, but all wanted to win the race badly. In typical fashion, Kristen Matlock in her 1954 Factory Polaris UTV, likes to start at the back of the pack and move her way up to the winner’s podium. After starting nearly in last place, Matlock quickly began running her race, putting a good lead on the rest of the Pro UTV N/A class. “The race was a lot rougher than I anticipated after pre-running all week,†she said. “We thought it was going to be a fast, smooth, easy-going run, but after those SCORE Trophy trucks got out there and tore it up a bit, it gave us a little bit of a challenge. Luck and skill seem to run endlessly with SCORE Pro UTV N/A racer Kristen Matlock, as she took the class win at the BFGoodrich Tires 34th SCORE San Felipe 250 Presented by Ford. With her factory Polaris RZR updated with a new appearance, she started at the rear of the class and quickly moved her way up. “San Felipe has a lot of line options for us and when we pre-ran, we found alternate lines that let us know where we could pass safely,†said Matlock. Kristen Matlock once again had everything working in her favor to go all out at the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. Starting fourth off the line in the Pro UTV N/A class, but well behind the Pro UTV FI class, Matlock drove solo through the competition to finish first as the Pro UTV Overall and Pro UTV N/A Class winner. “Our race went well, picking off racers from the start,†said Matlock. “We got to full speed in the first few miles and got the adrenaline pushed out before we got to the speed zones. Then we began running a fast and smart race. There are so many lines you can take in San Felipe, we picked the right ones and began passing everyone we could.†Read More
