A veteran of SCORE desert racing spanning over three decades, this Wildomar, California competitor has built an impressive legacy across multiple eras of off-road competition. Most recently capturing the 2020 SCORE Baja 500 Pro UTV Open championship, he demonstrated his ability to adapt and excel as the sport evolved into new vehicle categories.
His racing roots trace back to the early 1990s when he formed a formidable partnership with Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Curt LeDuc. Together, they dominated Class 3 competition in 1992, capturing victories at both the SCORE Baja 500 and San Felipe 250. This successful collaboration also extended to the Baja 1000, where they secured the 1991 Class 3 championship.
The partnership with LeDuc proved particularly significant, as they worked alongside racing legend Walker Evans during the height of straight-axle Jeep Cherokee competition. Their success in the rugged Class 3 division showcased exceptional driving skill and mechanical preparation across some of SCORE's most demanding terrain.
Now at 65, his recent Pro UTV Open championship at the challenging Ensenada-based Baja 500 proves that experience and determination continue to pay dividends in the punishing world of Baja desert racing.
More than 60 Pro UTV teams attempted to take on the 54th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. Some were there to challenge the peninsula, others had a class championship on the line, but all wanted to win the race badly. A total of 36 UTV teams descended into San Felipe to compete at the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. The largest concentration of teams and racers was within the Pro UTV FI, class, and as such, the competition was as tough as the course itself. 2019 SCORE Baja 500 class winner Craig Scanlon, 2019 SCORE Baja 1000 class winner Justin Lambert, 2019 SCORE Baja 400 class winner Wes Miller, and 2019 SCORE Pro UTV FI Class Champion Wayne Matlock were some of the racers wanting to add this 2020 race to their list of accomplishments, but winning it would not be as easy as those other times.
