Fernando Melendez

#1639

Biography

Competing in the challenging Class 1/2-1600 division, this desert racing veteran has carved out a respectable career in SCORE International's most demanding events. During the 2019 season, Fernando Melendez demonstrated his consistency and determination by securing an eighth-place finish in the competitive San Felipe 250, earning 63 championship points and establishing himself as a reliable finisher in one of off-road racing's most technical classes.

The Class 1/2-1600 category represents the grassroots heart of SCORE desert racing, where driving skill and mechanical preparation often matter more than budget. Melendez's ability to navigate the brutal Baja Peninsula terrain and cross the finish line while many competitors fall victim to the desert's unforgiving conditions speaks to his mechanical knowledge and racecraft. His San Felipe 250 performance came against a field of eight starters, with only half the field managing to complete the grueling course.

Known for his methodical approach to desert racing, Melendez understands that finishing is often more valuable than speed in the punishing world of Baja competition. His consistent participation in SCORE events demonstrates the dedication required to compete at the sport's highest level, where equipment failures and navigation challenges can end campaigns in an instant.
