Biography

A cornerstone of Mexican desert racing excellence, Juan Casteneda has established himself as one of SCORE's most accomplished competitors from his base in San Felipe, Baja California. His most defining moment came during the historic 2017 Baja 1000, where he co-drove alongside his son Carlos 'Apdaly' Lopez to capture the overall Trophy Truck victory in the prestigious 50th anniversary peninsula run from Ensenada to La Paz. The father-son duo completed the grueling course in 19:53:36, averaging 57.02 mph in their Chevy Rally Truck.

Beyond his role as overall winner, Casteneda has proven his versatility behind the wheel as a primary driver, competing in multiple SCORE events including the Baja 500 where he piloted his Ford Raptor against elite competition. His presence on desert racing's biggest stage alongside champions like Cameron Steele and Tim Herbst demonstrates his caliber as a competitor.

The 2017 Baja 1000 triumph represents more than just a victory—it showcases the deep racing heritage and mentorship that defines Mexican desert racing culture, with Casteneda serving as both champion competitor and guiding force for the next generation.
