A veteran Class 1 competitor with over three decades of SCORE desert racing experience, this Hermosa Beach-based racer brings unwavering determination and mechanical expertise to every grueling mile of Baja's unforgiving terrain. At 64, he demonstrated remarkable resilience during the historic 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 in 2017, piloting his #147 Jimco-Chevy across the challenging 1,134-mile peninsula course from Ensenada to La Paz.

Teaming with co-drivers Langley Kersenbaum, Nick De Avilla, and Robert Harman, McCarthy secured a solid sixth-place finish in the ultra-competitive Class 1 category, completing the marathon in 30:47:16 despite the race's record 405-competitor field that created unprecedented traffic and dust conditions. His consistent performance against a field of accomplished drivers showcased the tactical racing acumen and endurance that define his approach to desert racing.

Known for his methodical preparation and ability to maintain competitive pace over extended distances, McCarthy represents the dedicated privateer spirit that forms the backbone of SCORE competition. His continued participation in SCORE's premier events reflects a deep passion for desert racing and commitment to conquering Baja's most demanding challenges.
