Enrique Avalos - Class 1/2-1600

Enrique Avalos

Ensenada, BC - #1622

Biography

A veteran competitor in SCORE's VW-powered divisions, this Ensenada-based racer has established himself as a formidable presence in the challenging Class 1/2-1600 category. His breakthrough moment came at the legendary 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 in 2017, where he secured a hard-fought third-place finish in the grueling 1,134-mile peninsula run from Ensenada to La Paz.

Racing in one of desert racing's most demanding classes, he navigated the punishing Baja terrain aboard his Curry-chassis VW-powered machine, completing the course in 29:57:56 despite facing massive boulder sections and challenging traffic conditions that claimed more than half the field. The podium finish placed him among the elite in a class where VW-powered vehicles have been the backbone of Baja racing since the event's earliest days.

Competing alongside some of the sport's most dedicated privateers, he represents the grassroots spirit that has defined SCORE desert racing for five decades. His consistent performance in Class 1/2-1600 demonstrates the skill and determination required to excel in these lightweight, VW-powered machines across Baja California's unforgiving desert landscape, continuing a tradition that dates back to the race's origins in 1967.
