Marco Gomez

San Diego, CA - #570

Biography

A veteran of the brutal Baja Peninsula terrain, this San Diego-based desert racer has carved out a reputation as a tenacious competitor in SCORE's Class 5-1600 division. Racing the iconic Volkswagen-powered Baja Bug, he brings decades of experience to some of the world's most challenging off-road events.

His racing resume includes multiple Baja 1000 campaigns, where he's consistently demonstrated the skill and endurance required to tackle the legendary 1,000-mile marathon. Competing alongside experienced co-drivers including Victor Arroyo, Keven Reynolds, and Chamido Pena, he's built a formidable team capable of handling the Peninsula's unforgiving desert conditions.

The Class 5-1600 category represents pure desert racing heritage, with stripped-down VW Beetles modified for maximum durability over technical terrain. Success in this class requires not just driving skill, but mechanical knowledge and strategic race management across hundreds of miles of Mexico's most challenging landscapes.

Known for his methodical approach to race preparation and ability to maintain consistent pace through the most demanding sections of SCORE courses, he continues to be a respected presence in the tight-knit community of Baja racers who return year after year to test themselves against the desert's ultimate challenge.
