     ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico— Magnificent, majestic, and mysterious, the SCORE Baja 1000 always attracts the interest of millions of people worldwide. This has been the case for over five decades, and this coming November, it will happen again, with already 144 teams from the continents of Europe, Oceania, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America entered so far, anticipating a grand finale for the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship.

     From Nov. 11 to 17, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, will be the epicenter of desert racing with the BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000. More than 275 teams from over 30 states in the U.S., as well as from 15 different countries or more, are expected to participate.

     All these adventurers will seek to conquer a race course filled with mysticism and magic, measuring 869.13 miles for the professional classes of motorcycles/quads/trucks/cars/UTVs, while all the Sportsman classes, along with Class 7SX and 11, will tackle a race course of 736.61 miles, with a time limit of 36 hours in the elapsed-time race.

     The start and finish of “The Granddaddy of All Desert Races” will be at the Boulevard Costero in Ensenada adjacent to the Riviera de Ensenada Cultural Center, featuring a ceremonial start, along with timed starting line and finish line for the racers, which will be at Nelson Ranch, 15 miles East of Ensenada.

RACE WEEK SCHEDULE

     The fan-friendly, colorful, contingency row will be split into two days, Wed., Nov. 13, and Thurs., Nov. 14, taking place on the Boulevard Costero in Ensenada, with the first day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, and the second day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

     The green flag will drop for motorcyclists on Friday, Nov. 15, at 12:15 a.m. PT, on Boulevard Costero, while cars will receive the starting flag at 9 a.m. PT.

     The awards celebration will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 12 p.m. PT, in the Cathedral Room, at the Riviera de Ensenada Cultural Center. This event will be led by the official voice of SCORE, Rat Sult, who is already celebrating nine years with SCORE, during which he has shared millions of adventures with the racers and their teams.

MENZIES WILL DEFEND HIS CROWN

     Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies, 37, is already preparing for ‘The November Classic,’ without yet revealing who will be his second driver in his No. 1 Menzies Motorsports Ford Raptor Mason AWD, recalling that he won the overall at the SCORE Baja 1000 in 2023, alongside Gustavo "Tavo" Vildosola Jr, 42, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, and Andy McMillin, 36, San Diego.

     Menzies, a born champion in Off-Road racing as well as in Short Course racing, including victories on the legendary Crandon track in Wisconsin, is the leader of the SCORE Trophy Truck in the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship with 353 points, sharing that position with Mexico’s Alan Ampudia, 33, Ensenada, who just came off a victory at the overall of the 5th SCORE Baja 400, presented by VP Racing.

"EL CHAVO" WANTS MORE GLORY FOR BOLIVIA

     The top figure in motorsport from Bolivia, Juan Carlos "Chavo" Salvatierra, 43, wants to win the SCORE Baja 1000 overall again in the motorcycle division, while also seeking to give the KTM motorcycle brand its second overall victory in the history of this legendary race.

     Salvatierra, who finished third in the 5th SCORE Baja 400, presented by VP Racing, aboard his No.1x KTM XCF-450, will team up this year with Shane Logan, 22, Lake Havasu City, Ariz, Callum Norton, 24, Australia, and Corbin McPherson, 23, Hurricane, Utah, with the goal of triumphing again to dedicate the achievement to all the people of his beloved Bolivia.

     A year ago, in the SCORE 56th Baja 1000, Salvatierra and his team crossed the finish line at the Boulevard Costero in Ensenada after 26 hours, 34 minutes, 17 seconds, although on that occasion, it was on a peninsular route that started for the first time at the port of La Paz, Baja California Sur.

WELCOME DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

     For the first time in SCORE history, a racer from the Dominican Republic will be starting in one of its races, thanks to the presence of Alfonso Alonzo, 47, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, who will be part of Kees Rutten's team, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in the Pro Moto Limited class.

     Alonso will represent his nation in the legendary desert race aboard the No. 134x Honda CRF450X motorcycle, alongside Rutten, Gabriel Medina, San Vicente, Baja California, Mexico, and Gabriel Medina Jr, San Vicente, Baja California, Mexico.

THE FIRST GREEN FLAG

      Enthusiast Ed Pearlman founded the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) and established the Mexican 1000. It started officially in Tijuana on October 31, 1967 with 68 entries. They motored at leisure speeds to Ensenada and restarted the next day, finishing in La Paz.

     NORRA continued to organize the Mexican 1000, which came to be known as the Baja 1000 or affectionally as the Baja Mil. In 1968, Pearlman moved the start of the race to Ensenada. In 1972 NORRA started at Mexicali and ran the first half of the race down the east coast of the peninsula through the treacherous Three Sisters section. Pre-running for this race, Parnelli Jones and Walker Evans were among a group of competitors who nearly got swept out to sea during a tropical storm.

     NORRA’s last race was in 1972. At that point, Mexican officials revoked NORRA’s permits to stage races in Baja. In 1973, a domestic group called the Baja Sports Committee produced the race.

ENTER SCORE

     After the fuel crisis of 1974 forced local officials to cancel the event, SCORE International, founded by the late Mickey Thompson in 1973, and headed soon after by Sal Fish (until 2012), was invited by the northern state of Baja California to hold the race in 1975. The SCORE Baja 1000 became a loop event starting and finishing in Ensenada.

     In 1979, the government of Baja California Sur granted permission to resume the Ensenada-to-La Paz format and SCORE has used this route intermittently ever since.

     The 1979 race was notable for Walker Evans’ overall win in a Dodge truck, the first truck to win the overall title of the race.

     THE METHOD RACE WHEELS QUALIFYING

     On Tues., Nov. 12, the Method Race Wheels qualifying for the SCORE Baja 1000 will take place for the SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE TT Legend, and Trophy Truck Spec classes, starting with practice at 8 a.m. PT, at a private venue, with no spectator access allowed.

     This will determine the starting order in these three classes for the race, marking the first time in SCORE history that all SCORE events will include this activity, aimed at generating greater economic impact for the race venues, such as Ensenada and San Felipe.

     The Method Race Wheels qualifying will be broadcast live on SCORE's official Facebook and YouTube accounts, featuring insights from off-road experts from SCORE's studios in El Cajón, Calif., who will be presenting live times for each participating racer.

Contará la edición 57 de la BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 con presencia de 5 continentes

Corredores de Europa, Asia, África, Oceanía y América estarán participando en la cuarta fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE

  

ENSENADA, Baja California, México— La magia y misterio de la SCORE Baja 1000 siempre atrae el interés de millones de personas en el mundo, así ha sido desde hace más de 5 décadas, y en este noviembre próximo, sucederá lo mismo, al contar ya con 144 equipos de los continentes de Europa, Oceanía, Asia, África y América, con lo que se espera un cierre de lujo para el Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE.

    Del 11 al 17 de noviembre, Ensenada, Baja California, México, será el epicentro del Off-Road con la edición 57 de la BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, con la presencia esperada de más de 275 equipos de más de 28 estados de los Estados Unidos, al igual que de 12 países diferentes, o más.

    Todos esos aventureros buscarán salir avante de una ruta llena de misticismo y magia, de 869.13 millas para las clases profesionales de motos y carros, mientras que las clases Sportsmans de motos y carros, más la Clase 7SX y 11, tendrán que vencer a   una ruta de 736.61 millas, contando para ello con un tiempo límite de 36 horas.

    La salida y meta de “La Madre de todas las carreras fuera de camino” será el Bulevar Costero de Ensenada, con un arranque ceremonial, y otro punto de comienzo, al igual que llegada en tiempo para los corredores, que será el rancho Nelson.

    En este caso, la bandera verde caerá para los motociclistas el viernes 15 de noviembre a las 12:15 de la noche, tiempo del Pacífico, en el Bulevar Costero, y para los carros, recibirán el banderazo de salida a las 9 de la mañana.

    La revisión mecánica se dividirá en dos días, miércoles 13 de noviembre y jueves 14, evento que se realizará en el Bulevar Costero de Ensenada, con el primer día, de las 9 de la mañana a las 5 de la tarde, y el segundo día, de las 8 de la mañana a las 5 de la tarde.

     Y la ceremonia de premiación se realizará el domingo 17 de noviembre, a las 12 de la tarde, en el Salón Catedral del Centro Social y Cultural Riviera de Ensenada, evento que será encabezado por la voz oficial de SCORE, Rat Sult, quien está celebrando ya 9 años en SCORE, en los que ha compartido millones de aventuras con los corredores, al igual que con sus equipos.

SALDRÁ MENZIES A DEFENDER SU CORONA

    Bryce Menzies, de 37 años de edad, y de Las Vegas, Nevada, está ya en la preparación para “El Clásico de Noviembre”, sin revelar aún, quien será su relevo al volante de su Ford Raptor Mason de doble tracción, Número 1 del equipo Menzies Motorsports, recordando que ganó el overall de la SCORE Baja 1000 en 2023, junto a Gustavo “Tavo” Vildósola Junior, de 42 años de edad, y de Mexicali, Baja California, y Andy McMillin, de 36 años de edad, y de San Diego, California.

    Menzies, un campeón nato en el Off-Road, al igual que en las carreras de Short Course, incluidos triunfos en la mítica pista de Crandon, Wisconsin, es líder de los SCORE Trophy Trucks en el Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE con 353 puntos, compartiendo esa posición con Alan Ampudia, de 33 años de edad, y de Ensenada, Baja California, México, destacando que viene de ganar el overall de la edición 5 de la SCORE Baja 400, presentada por VP Racing.

BUSCA “EL CHAVO”, MÁS GLORIA PARA BOLIVIA

    La máxima figura del deporte motor de Bolivia, Juan Carlos “Chavo” Salvatierra, de 43 años de edad, y de Bolivia, quiere ganar nuevamente la SCORE Baja 1000 en forma overall dentro de las motocicletas, sumado a que busca darle a la marca de motocicletas KTM, su segundo triunfo overall en la historia de la legendaria carrera.

    Salvatierra, quien viene de finalizar tercero en la edición 5 de la SCORE Baja 400, presentada por VP Racing, a bordo de su motocicleta KTM XCF-450 Número 1x, unirá fuerzas en este año con Shane Logan, de 22 años de edad, y de Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Callum Norton, de 24 años de edad, y de Australia, y Corbin McPherson, de 23 años de edad, y de Hurricane, Utah, pensando en triunfar nuevamente para dedicarle la hazaña a toda la gente de su amado Bolivia.

     Hace un año, en la edición 56 de la SCORE Baja 1000, Salvatierra y su equipo cruzaron la meta en el Bulevar Costero de Ensenada, tras 26 horas, 34 minutos y 17 segundos, aunque en esa ocasión, fue en una ruta peninsular, misma que arrancó por primera vez en el puerto de La Paz, Baja California Sur.

BIENVENIDA REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA

    Por primera vez en la historia de SCORE, un corredor de República Dominicana estará tomando el arranque en una de sus carreras, gracias a la presencia de Alfonso Alonzo, de 47 años, y de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, quien formará parte del equipo de Kees Rutten, de Calgary, Alberta, Canadá, en la clase Pro Moto Limited.

    Alonso representará a su nación en la legendaria carrera fuera de camino, a bordo de la motocicleta Honda Número 134x, junto a Rutteen, Gabriel Medina, de San Vicente, Baja California, México, y Gabriel Medina Junior, de San Vicente, Baja California, México.

EL ORIGEN

      El entusiasta Ed Pearlman, fundador de la Asociación Nacional de Off Road (NORRA), estableció la carrera Mexican 1000. Ese evento arrancó en Tijuana, durante el 31 de octubre de 1967, contando con 68 equipos participantes. Ellos viajaron a velocidad moderada hasta Ensenada, y al día siguiente, partieron de esa ciudad, para culminar su trayecto en La Paz.

     NORRA siguió con la organización de la Mexican 1000, que posteriormente se convirtió en la Baja 1000, o cómo también se le dice en forma cariñosa, la Baja Mil. En 1968, Pearlman decidió mover el arranque de la Carrera a Ensenada, sede official por la mayoría de años, algo que no sucedió en 1993. En 1972, NORRA arrancó en Mexicali, contando con un recorrido en su primera mitad, en el lado este de la península de Baja California, a través de la zona conocida como 3 Hermanas. Parnelli Jones y Walker Evans, junto a un grupo de competidores, fueron casi arrastrados al mar durante los recorridos, gracias a una tormenta tropical en el área.

     La última Carrera de NORRA sucedió en 1972. En ese momento, autoridades mexicanas revocaron el permiso de NORRA para organizar carreras en Baja California. En 1973, un grupo local conocido como el Comité Deportivo de Baja realizó la carrera.

APARICIÓN DE SCORE

     Tras la crisis internacional de gasolina en 1974, se canceló la carrera en ese año, pero la empresa SCORE International fundada por el fallecido Mickey Thompson en 1973, y luego dirigida por Sal Fish (hasta 2012), fue invitada por el gobierno del estado de Baja California para realizar la carrera en 1975. La SCORE Baja 1000 se convirtió en una carrera con salida y meta en Ensenada.

     En 1979, el Gobierno de Baja California Sur otorgó nuevamente permiso para reanudar la ruta entre Ensenada y La Paz, formato que SCORE ha usado hasta la fecha, de forma intermitente.

    La carrera de 1979 fue notable, gracias al triunfo absoluto de Walker Evans en una camioneta Dodge, siendo el primer Truck en conquistar el overall de la legendaria competencia.

LA CALIFICACIÓN METHOD RACE WHEELS

     El martes 12 de noviembre se realizará la calificación Method Race Wheels de la SCORE Baja 1000 para los SCORE Trophy Trucks, SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend y Trophy Truck Spec, iniciando con prácticas desde las 8 de la mañana en una sede privada, recordando que en este evento no se permitirá el acceso a espectadores.

     De esa manera se definirá el orden de arranque en esas 3 clases para la carrera, siendo esta la primera vez en la historia que todas las fechas de SCORE contarán con esta actividad, pensando en generar una mayor derrama económica de las sedes de las carreras de SCORE, como lo son Ensenada y San Felipe.

     La calificación Method Race Wheels será transmitida en vivo por las cuentas oficiales de SCORE en Facebook y YouTube, con la opinión de expertos del Off-Road desde los estudios de SCORE en El Cajón, California, quienes estarán presentando tiempos en vivo de cada uno de los corredores participantes.
