ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Celebrating the birth of the global legacy of SCORE International, the SCORE Baja 500 was first held by Mickey Thompson and Sal Fish on July 26, 1974 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
June’s dynamic BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500 is Round 2 of the four-race 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization. This year’s race-week festivities will be held June 3-7.
This year’s epic event will start for the 52nd time and finish for the 48th time in Ensenada, Baja California. Saturday, June 6, 2026 will be the annual SCORE International Day in Ensenada.
This popular early summer racing extravaganza has also started three times in Ojos Negros, Baja California, twice in San Felipe, Baja California and once in Barstow, California, USA.
The event has also finished five times in Santo Tomas, Baja California, twice in Ojos Negro, twice in San Felipe and once in Barstow, California, USA.
58th SCORE BAJA 500
Most of the world’s best desert racers will be in action at this year’s legendary BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500.
Nearly 225 vehicles are expected at the start line with racers from 30 U.S. States and as many as 10 countries anticipated. Pro and Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads will be competing in this SCORE Baja legacy race.
This year’s SCORE Baja 500 will be a long loop race of an exhilaratingly exhausting 468.85 miles starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California.
Ensenada, “The Off-Road Racing Capital of the World,” is a coastal city on the Bahia de Todos Santos area of the Pacific Ocean, 80 miles south of the U.S. border at San Diego.
This race is annually Round 2 of the SCORE World Desert Championship, which is being held exclusively in Baja California for the last 11 straight years.
Here is a quick look at some of the many magnificent milestones in the history of the SCORE Legacy Baja race…
1969-73 – NORRA introduces and promotes the Baja 500 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
Bud Ekins/Gary Jones win overall 4-wheel in a Baja Boots-Olds in 1969; Doug Douglas/Jim
McClurg win overall 2-wheel on a Ducati motorcycle. There were 163 starters; 73 finishers.
1973 - Mickey Thompson forms SCORE and signs agreement with Mexico to become the official U.S.
promoter in Baja California
1974 - Sal Fish takes control of SCORE and runs it for the next 38 Years
The Inaugural SCORE Baja Internacional is held on July 26, 1974 (SCORE starts negotiating
for the use of the name Baja 500 with NORRA. This race had 279 starters; 173 finishers
Bobby Ferro wins the overall in a Sandmaster-VW; Mitch Mayes/A.C. Bakken win the 2- wheel
on a Honda
1975 – Ivan ‘Ironman’ Stewart celebrates his June birthday by winning the overall 4-Wheel in Funco-
VW; Stewart would go on to 17 class wins in this race, including 10 overall. Larry
Roeseler/Bruce Ogilvie top the motos on a Harley-Davidson
1976 – Bobby Ferro/Ivan Stewart team to win the overall 4-Wheel while Larry Roeseler/A.C.Bakken
win the motos on a Husqvarna; 384 starters, 179 finishers
1977 – Ivan Stewart wins overall 4-wheel in a Chenowth-VW while Larry Roeseler wins the motos for
The third straight year, this time with Jack Johnson on another Husqvarna; 384 starters; 161
finishers
1978 –Bud Feldkamp/Malcolm Smith win the overall 4-Wheel in a Funco-VW while Brent
Wallingsford/Scot Harden win the motos on a Husqvarna; Smith/Felkamp would also win
Overall 4-Wheel in 1979 and 1981 and Smith would win again in 1981 with Bill Newbury in a
Chenowth-Chevy. Smith would eventually end his career with five class wins, and four overalls
including on a motorcycle (1971).
1979- 1979 was the first overall of 35 so far in the history of this race for BFGoodrich Tires; Jack
Johnson was the first moto overall winner to ride solo (Husqvarna) in the SCORE Baja 500
1980- ‘Baja’ Bob Gordon solos to win the overall in a Chenowth-Chevy while Bruce Ogilvie/Chuck

1981- Larry Roeseler teams with Bruce Ogilvie to win the motorcycle race on a Yamaha

1983- Corky & Scott McMillin win overall in a Chenowth-VW (did it again in 1986 in a Chenowth-

1985, 1986- Scot Harden wins the overall (and in 1986) on a Husqvarna motorcycle with Kurt Pfeiffer
and then with Garth Sweetland

1996- Troy Herbst drives solo in his Smithbuilt-Porsche to the overall in the unlimited Class 1; Paul
Krause tops the motorcycles for the third straight year on a Kawaski, this time with Ty Davis
1997- Johnny Campbell wins his first of five overall moto wins, this time with Bruce Ogilive as co-
rider, giving Honda their first of 24 overall motorcycle victories to date in this race; Campbell
went on to win in 1998 with Ogilvie, and 2002, 2003 and 2004 with Steve Hengeveld
1999- Jonah Street wins his first overall on a Honda with Torsten Borstrom, and 2000 and 2001 with

2016- Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola becomes the second Mexican National to win this race, driving a Ford

La segunda fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, que consta de un total de cuatro carreras;

ENSENADA, Baja California, México– Celebrando el nacimiento del legado global de SCORE International, la SCORE Baja 500 fue realizada por primera vez por Mickey Thompson y Sal Fish el 26 de Julio de 1974 en Ensenada.
La espectacular BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500, en su edición 58, será la segunda fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, que cuenta con un total de cuatro carreras, considerado el principal serial de carreras fuera de camino en el mundo. Las actividades de esta edición se realizarán del 3 al 7 de Junio.
Este año, la legendaria competencia cumplirá 52 años que cuenta con el arranque en Ensenada, y alcanzará 48 años que el puerto será sede de la meta de esta competencia. El Sábado 6 de Junio de 2026 será celebrado el tradicional Día de SCORE International en “La Cenicienta del Pacífico”.
Esta popular tradición de automovilismo y motociclismo de principios de verano también ha tenido arranques en tres ocasiones en Ojos Negros, que forma parte del municipio de Ensenada, dos veces en San Felipe, Baja California, y una vez en Barstow, California.
La carrera también ha tenido metas finales en cinco ocasiones en la delegación de Ensenada, Santo Tomás, dos veces en Ojos Negros, dos veces en San Felipe y una vez en Barstow, California.
EDICIÓN 58 DE LA SCORE BAJA 500
La mayoría de los mejores corredores de desierto del mundo estarán en acción en la legendaria edición 58 de la BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500.
Se espera la participación de cerca de 225 equipos de competencia en la línea de arranque, con competidores provenientes de 30 estados de los Estados Unidos y hasta 10 países. Las categorías profesionales y Sportsmans para motocicletas y carros competirán en esta histórica carrera de SCORE en el estado de Baja California.
La SCORE Baja 500 de este año contará con una ruta muy extrema y exigente de 468.70 millas, misma que arrancará y finalizará en el puerto de Ensenada.
Ensenada, conocida como “La Capital Mundial del Off-Road”, es una ciudad costera ubicada en la Bahía de Todos Santos, sobre el Océano Pacífico, a 80 millas al sur de la frontera estadounidense en San Diego, California.

1975 – Iván Stewart celebra su cumpleaños de Junio ganando el overall de 4 ruedas en
un Funco-VW; más adelante lograría 17 victorias de clase en esta carrera,
incluyendo 10 absolutos. Larry Roeseler y Bruce Ogilvie ganan en motos al
control de una Harley-Davidson.
1976 – Bobby Ferro e Iván Stewart se combinan para ganar el absoluto en los carros,
mientras Larry Roeseler y A.C. Bakken ganan en motos con un modelo
Husqvarna; la carrera contó con 384 equipos participantes, y 179 finalizaron el reto.
1977 – Iván Stewart gana la carrera en forma overall dentro de los carros, al volante de
un Chenowth-VW, mientras Larry Roeseler gana en motos por tercer año
