    ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico – As online racer registration continues and the calendar moves to just over 30 days from race week, among the latest entries for the upcoming 33rd annual SCORE San Felipe 250 in Baja California, Mexico are eight racers with stalwart desert racing names of Langley, McMillin, Vildosola and Millen. The race will feature classes for cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads.

     With many of the sport’s top stars among the first 61 official entries as of today from 13 U.S. States along with the additional countries of Canada, host Mexico and New Zealand, COPS Racing trio of John Langley and his sons Zak Langley and Morgan Langley are entered in three classes along with three entries in SCORE Trophy Truck from Andy McMillin along with his cousins Dan McMillin and Luke McMillin and Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola Jr. in SCORE Trophy Truck, Rhys Millen in Class 1.

     Featuring a rugged race-record course of approximately 350 miles, the season-opening event of the four-race internationally-televised 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship will be held April 3-7 in San Felipe, the peaceful fishing village on the Sea of Cortez, 125 miles south of the U.S. Border at Calexico, Calif. The race will air domestically on the ABC World of X Games show.

     All four 2019 SCORE races will be held on Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula for the fourth consecutive year.

COPS RACING TEAM

     As if award-winning Hollywood executive John Langley wasn’t busy enough creating and producing 1054 episodes over the last 31 years of the acclaimed COPS reality TV show, he is also celebrating the 11th year of his colorful COPS Racing Team by entering three vehicles among the early entries in next month’s SCORE San Felipe 250 in Baja California, Mexico.

GODFATHER OF ‘REALITY TV’

     The creator and executive producer of the COPS show that debuted in 1989, John Langley is considered the ‘godfather’ of reality TV by his peers and in 2011 was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the television industry. COPS has been airing on the FOX Network for nearly a decade.

     In 2008 Langley and his sons Morgan and Zak launched the COPS Racing Team which has successfully competed for the last 11 years in the SCORE World Desert Championship.

     While the affable and philanthropic John Langley might end up with the COPS logo on other vehicles, the official COPS Racing Team entries for this year’s SCORE San Felipe 250 from their race shop in Carson, Calif., will be in SCORE Trophy Truck, the unlimited Class 1 and in the Trophy Truck Spec divisions. Two of the race vehicles were built by ES Motorsports and the third by Mason Motorsports.

     Zak Langley, 43, will race the No. 50 ESM-built Ford F-150 in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division for high-tech, 950 horsepower unlimited custom trucks, Morgan Langley, 44, will be the driver of record in the No. 150 ESM-Chevy powered open-wheel desert race car in the unlimited Class 1 and family patriarch John Langley, 75, will be ‘DOR’ in the No. 250 Mason-Chevy truck built by Mason Motorsports.

     All three plan on having a second driver in San Felipe. Kyle Jergensen, Oak Hill, Calif., will be Zak Langley’s second driver in the No. 50 SCORE Trophy Truck while Paul Keller, El Cajon, Calif. will be the other driver for Morgan Langley’s No. 150 Class 1 car.  John Langley’s second driver in the No. 250 Trophy Truck Spec will be veteran desert racing champion Steve Hengeveld, Flagstaff, Ariz.

     Zak Langley and Jergensen teamed up for last year’s SCORE Baja 1000 where they finished eighth out of 36 starters in SCORE Trophy Truck.

     Hengeveld has four overall motorcycle wins in the SCORE San Felipe 250 (2001 through 2004) and along with Kash Vessels, Mooresville, N.C., helped John Langley defeat 26 starters in Trophy Truck Spec to win their class in epic 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 in 2017.

     Last year, Morgan Langley and Keller teamed to win Class 1 in the 2018 SCORE Baja 1000.

THREE DECADES-PLUS

     Celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the youngest of the three legendary SCORE Baja races, sometimes referred to as the SCORE ‘baby Baja’, entries are being accepted on the SCORE website under Race Info atwww.SCOREInternational.com for Pro and Sportsman entries for cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads.

     Pre-race festivities will be held in San Felipe on April 3, 4 and 5 with race day on Saturday, April 6 concluding with the post-race awards fiesta at Noon PT on Sunday, April 7.

     The colorful pre-race contingency and Manufacturer’s Midway, the starting line and the finish line will be on the Malecon in the heart of San Felipe for the third straight year. Contingency will be held on two days for the first time in the history of this race with classes split with some going through the line on Wednesday (April 4) and the balance, including the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division, going through  on Thursday (April 5).

     The deadline to enter in time to be in the drawing for starting positions within each class is 8 p.m. PT on Tuesday, March 26.

3RD GENERATION McMILLINS

     Consider to be one of the ‘first families’ of SCORE Baja racing, Andy McMillin and his cousins Dan McMillin and Luke McMillin are third-generation desert racers.

     Following in the tenacious tracks of their Grandfather Corky McMillin and their fathers Scott (Andy) and Mark (Dan and Luke), the three McMillins all race in SCORE Trophy Truck. And all three third generation McMillins have a class win in the SCORE San Felipe 250.

     Andy, 31, won Class 1 while splitting the driving with his father Scott in 2005 when he was a senior in high school.

      Dan, 31, earned his Class 1/2-1600 win in 2007 while Luke, the youngest of the three at 26, won Class 1 in 2012.

     Last year all three raced in SCORE Trophy Truck with Luke finishing third, Andy fourth and Dan sixth out of 36 starters in the marquee racing division in the sport.

     Andy McMillin, National City, Calif. drives the No. 31 Chevy Silverado, Dan McMillin, La Mesa, Calif. drives the No. 23 Ford F-150 and Luke McMillin, San Diego will be behind the wheel of the No. 83 Ford F-150.

TAVO VILDOSOLA

     Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola Jr, one of the very top desert racers in all of Mexico, has entered as well in SCORE Trophy Truck. Tavo, whose father Gus Sr is the reigning SCORE TT Legend point champion with Scott Bailey, has six class wins in the SCORE San Felipe 250. Tavo won his first three in the ProTruck class and then became the first racer to win three straight years in SCORE Trophy Truck (2013, 2014 and 2015), sharing the wheel with his father in 2013 and driving solo for the other two victories.

     This year in San Felipe, Tavo is expected to debut his new No. 21 Ford Raptor built by Vildosola Racing.

VERSATILE RHYS

     With a father (Rod) and an uncle (Steve) both accomplished stars in various forms of motorsports, New Zealand’s Rhys Millen has taken racing versatility to a new level for the racing family. Rhys, who was raised in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., a prominent Hollywood commercial and film stunt driver, has won in four forms of motorsports—U.S. Rallycross, Pike’s Peak Hill Climb, Formula Drift and SCORE desert racing.

     He has won races in all four motorsport forms including records at Pike’s Peak and the 2005 Formula D championship and he won his class in last year’s Lucerna Hotels & Resorts Tijuana 22nd SCORE Desert Challenge.

     After racing last year in the Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) class, he has moved to the unlimited Class 1 for this year’s race. In San Felipe, Millen will drive the Ford-powered No. 167 RMR 4WD open-wheel desert race car built by his Rhys Millen Racing in Huntington Beach, Calif.

SIX-TIMER

    While three racers have three overall victories in the SCORE San Felipe 250, Las Vegas’ Hall of Fame racer Rob MacCachren might have set a standard that will last for awhile, unless he breaks his own record of six overall and SCORE Trophy Truck wins.

     MacCachren, who won the overall in San Felipe last year to give him 10 class wins in this race, earned his first SCORE Trophy Truck overall in this race in 2003 when he split the driving with Mexico’s Gustavo Vildosola Sr and his second in 2007 when he split the driving with Mark Post.

     MacCachren earned back-to-back wins in 2011 and 2012 driving solo and won his fifth in 2017 and his sixth last year driving solo again in his No. 11 MacCachren Motorsports Rockstar Ford F-150.

MORE SCORE TROPHY TRUCKS & SCORE TT LEGENDS

     SCORE Trophy Truck, the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 950-horsepower unlimited custom trucks leads the early entry list with 18 vehicles (including three SCORE TT Legend entries) in the lineup so far. In addition to MacCachren, the McMillins, Tavo Vildsola and Zak Langley, the other early SCORE Trophy Truck entries are Ricky Johnson, Trabucco Canyon, Calif.      For over three decades, the annual motorsports festival that has brought the largest economic impact of any single event held annually in this lightly-populated portion of the rugged, rough and bountifully beautiful Baja peninsula has been the SCORE San Felipe 250.

SCORE RULE BOOK UPDATE

     Under the supervision and direction of SCORE Race Director Jose A. Grijalva and SCORE Tech Director Dan Cornwell with editing and updating by SCORE Ops personnel Lawton Shank and Christine Wait, the 2019 SCORE Rule Book is currently in final review along with the 2019 Rule Book Addendum. All relevant items will be available in the near future on the SCORE website and updated as needed during the year under the race info page.

ABC TV IN 2019

     SCORE has confirmed that the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship will be televised on the ABC TV family of networks, marking the first time back on the ABC network since the 1967 and 1968 coverage of the Baja 1000 on ABC’s old Wide World of Sports show.

     The one-hour shows on the 33rd SCORE San Felipe 250, 51st SCORE Baja 500 and the 52nd SCORE Baja 1000 will be televised as part of ABC’s World of X Games year-long programming. Presented by SCORE sponsors Monster Energy and BFGoodrich Tires, the ABC World of X Games series profiles iconic action sports figures and also highlights athletes, artists, event previews and recaps.

     SCORE also announced that the inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400 next September will air as a one-hour special on ESPN TV.

     Hall of Fame racer Cameron Steele’s popular ‘Trail of Missions’ show has been shown as part of ABC’s World of X Games series for the past several years.
