Originally from Hemet, Calif., Rod Hall was a long-time resident of Reno, Nev. and as not only one of the original desert racers but one of the greatest champions the sport has ever seen.
Hall is the only person who raced in every one of the first 50 SCORE Baja 1000 races ending his career with an unmatchable SCORE-record 25 class wins, earning his final one at the 50th anniversary of the world's greatest desert race in 2017.
In his long and storied SCORE racing career Hall won 14 SCORE season point championships including the 1974 overall point championship as well.
Besides his 25 class wins in the SCORE Baja 1000 (including the overall victory in 1969 with Larry Minor), the venerable Hall also had 18 class wins in the SCORE Baja 500, four in the SCORE San Felipe 250, and two each in the SCORE Desert Challenge and in the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible's Primm 300. He also had 10 class wins in the Mint 400, 10 more in the old SCORE Parker 400 and 12 in the old SCORE Fireworks 250.
Hall was a 2005 inductee into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame. He also served in many capacities for ORMHOF to help the organization reboot and to keep the organization moving forward.
CLIMBING HIGHER
The SCORE Journal digital magazine, reaching an average of nearly 2 million unique viewers per issue with an average engagement time of over 31 minutes is a major element in the continuing media expansion that SCORE has implemented. The continually revamped SCORE website also generates an average of over 2 million monthly unique viewers.
SPECIAL NUMBERS
The SCORE Journal digital magazine’s November 2018 (SCORE Baja 1000) issue delivered a record 2.8 million unique viewers/readers. The Spanish version of that SCORE Journal issue recorded 224,628 unique viewers/readers.
The SCORE website for the week of the 51st SCORE Baja 1000 in November of last year had a very strong 1.2 million unique viewers.
Helped by the SCORE live streaming format, The SCORE San Felipe 250 recorded 1,155,904 unique visitors to the SCORE website during race week.
And the SCORE Journal’s March 33rd SCORE San Felipe 250 preview issue was viewed by 1,810,444 unique viewers and our Spanish language edition of the SJ generated over 190,000 unique viewers!
INSIDE VOL. 5, NO. 7
Vol. 5, No. 7 of the SCORE Journal is once again filled with numerous interesting worth-reading features, stories, captivating images, exciting videos and several news items.
This edition is anchored around a colorful review of the racing career of Rod Hall. This special section also includes personal comments from family, friends, racers and sponsors who recall their own special moments with Rod.
This issue also has a feature on AMA and Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer Chris Haines along with a second story with his tips for setting up motorcycles to compete in SCORE Baja races.
SCORE Journal’s annual Baja Suspension Guide is part of this month’s lineup along with an interview in picture and words with former SCORE racing champion Mike Lesle who has returned to SCORE after 25 years in his original race-winning Jeep Comanche race truck.
Among the several SCORE News items in this month’s issue is a brief look at the six inductees that have been announced as the 2019 class in the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame. ABC TV IN 2019
The 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship is being televised on the ABC TV family of networks, marking the first time back on the ABC network since the 1967 and 1968 coverage of the Baja 1000 on ABC’s old Wide World of Sports show.
The one-hour shows on the 33rd SCORE San Felipe 250, 51st SCORE Baja 500 and the 52nd SCORE Baja 1000 will be televised as part of ABC’s World of X Games year-long programming. Presented by SCORE sponsors Monster Energy and BFGoodrich Tires, the ABC World of X Games series profiles iconic action sports figures and also highlights athletes, artists, event previews and recaps.
The inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400 in September will air as a one-hour special on ESPN TV, also on the World of X Games programming.
