Round 3 of four-race 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship

WHERE:         Ensenada-Baja California, Mexico
(80 miles south of U.S./Mexico Border at San Diego)
WHO:              Nearly 200 entries, 24 States, 7 countries (USA, host country Mexico, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Peru, Spain)
COURSE:       TOTAL MILEAGE: 400 miles (3 physical checkpoints, approximately 103 virtual checkpoints, 13 speed zone sections for a total of 71.01 miles). The race starts and finishes in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in the heart of Ensenada.. It travels clockwise up Ensenada Arroyo for the 19.6-mile two-way section up to near Ojos Negros. From there it goes through or near Santa Catarina, Nuevo Junction, Jamau, Valle de Trinidad, the Goal Trail, Mike’s Sky Rancho, Rancho Las Truchas, Rancho Simpson, Llano Colorado, Colonet, San Antonio Del Mar, Cerro Solo, along the Pacific Ocean after Erendira wash, Santo Tomas and back in near Ojos Negros. Checkpoints: CK1-Santa Catarina, rm96.91; CK2-Llano Colorado, rm230.15; CK3-Santo Tomas, rm321.94.

MCMILLIN TRIO AWESOME!
While Andy McMillin was clearly the Overall winner in both of the first two races of the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship, his cousins Luke McMillin and Dan McMillin have also pulled off impressive top five finishes and are in the top six in overall points. The McMillin trio are also first, second and third in the SCORE Trophy Truck season point standings midway through the season. All third-generation desert racers from San Diego, Luke McMillin, 26, has finished fifth and second in SCORE Trophy Truck this year in his No. 83 Mark Racing Ford F-150 (Racer) while Dan McMillin, 31, has third and eighth-place finishes in SCORE Trophy Truck in his No. 23 Mark Racing Ford F-150 (Racer). Luke McMillin is tied for second in SCORE Overall points with 206 total points and his older brother Dan McMillin is sixth in the SCORE Overall standings with 199.
MATLOCK H&W RACERS
UTV racers Wayne Matlock, 41, and his wife Kristen, 38 of Alpine, Calif., both drive solo and both lead the point standings in their respective classes and Wayne Matlock is also the SCORE Overall UTV point leader. Wayne Matlock, the reigning SCORE Overall season point champion, won his Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) class in the No. 2971 Polaris RZR XP Turbo UTV in San Felipe and he was fourth in his class in the SCORE Baja 500. Wayne Matlock is seventh in SCORE Overall points after two of four races with 192 season points.
Kristen Matlock won the Pro UTV NA (Naturally Aspirated) class in her Matlock Racing No. 1954 Polaris RZR XP4 1000 and was second in Round 2 to earn 168 season points which ties her for the season point lead in her class with Kaden Wills, St. George, Utah who was second and first in the two rounds to date in another Polaris RZR XP1000.
TOP SEVEN IN OVERALL POINTS
While Andy McMillin (first) and his cousins Luke McMillin (second), Dan McMillin (sixth) and Wayne Matlock seventh are on the 2019 SCORE Overall point leader board, tied for second in SCORE overall points with Luke and leading the Trophy Truck Spec class is Sara Price, Canyon Lake, Calif., with 206 points in her No. 204 RPM Racing Geiser-Chevy truck. Price, who drives solo with Erica Saks as her able navigator, has two solid second place finishes in her class this season which gives her the season point lead in her class.
Currently tied for second in the Trophy Truck Spec class following his first SCORE win ever in San Felipe and tied for fourth in the SCORE Overall point standings is second-generation SCORE racer Austin A.J. Jones, 23, Litchfield Park, Ariz., who has 205 season points is his No. 279 TSCO-Chevy truck. Jones, son of 2010 SCORE Trophy Truck season point champion Jesse Jones, defeated a SCORE-record field of 29 starters in his class in San Felipe. Tied for fourth in overall points and tied for second in Trophy Truck Spec is Charles Dorrance, Austin, Texas, with 205 points in his No. 299 Geiser-Chevy. Dorrance was fourth in his class in San Felipe before earning his first SCORE class race win at the SCORE Baja 500.
MORGAN LEADS M/Cs
After earning the 2018 SCORE Overall Motorcycle and Pro Moto Unlimited class point championship after amazingly winning their class and the overall titles in all four races last year as a new team, Justin Morgan, 29, El Cajon, Calif./Mark Samuels, 29, Yucca Valley, Calif. and third rider Justin Jones, 27, Murrieta, Calif., have opened their 2019 campaign with their fifth and sixth straight SCORE wins to lead their class and the SCORE Overall Motorcycle points with 175 points on their No. 1x Honda CRF450X.
SCORE TROPHY TRUCK LEADERS
Lined up behind the three McMillins in the point standings in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division for high-tech, 950-horsepower custom trucks are several more of the world’s finest desert racers.
In a three-way tie for fourth place in SCORE Trophy Trucks with 190 points each are Las Vegas brothers Tim Herbst/Ed Herbst (No. 19 Monster Energy Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150-Herbst/Smith), Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies (No. 7 Red Bull Menzies Motorsports Ford Raptor-Huseman) and Ensenada brothers Alan Ampudia/Aaron Ampudia (No. 10 Papas Y Beer Ford Raptor-ID).
Seventh and ninth respectively in SCORE Trophy Truck season points after Round 2 are Desert Assassins teammates Cameron Steele and Bobby Pecoy.
Twelfth in SCORE Overall points with 185 so far is Steele, San Clemente, Calif. in his No. 16 Monster Energy Desert Assassins Ford Raptor (Geiser) and tied for 14th in SCORE Overall points with 185 is Pecoy, Yorba Linda, Calif., in the No. 14 Monster Energy Desert Assassins Ford Raptor (Geiser).
Eighth after two races in SCORE Trophy Truck and 13th in SCORE Overall points with 186 is the team of Chris Miller, La Jolla, Calif./Jimmy Nuckles, Brawley, Calif. in the No. 40 Toyota Tundra built by ID Designs.
Tied for ninth in SCORE Trophy Truck and tied for 14th in SCORE Overall points with 185 is Mike Lawrence, Banning, Calif., in his No. 85 Lawrence Equipment Herbst/Smith-built Ford F-150.
And 11th in SCORE Trophy Truck season points and 17th in SCORE Overall points with 184 is former veteran SCORE champion Robby Gordon, Charlotte, N.C., in his No. 77 Speed Energy Custom-built Chevy Silverado.
FIVE CLASS LEADERS IN TOP 25 OVERALL
Including Andy McMillin in SCORE Trophy Truck, Sara Price in Trophy Truck Spec and Wayne Matlock in Pro UTV FI, a total of five classes have at least one racer in the top 25 SCORE Overall 4-wheel point standings after Round 1 of the four-race 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship.
The classes among the top 25 point leaders are SCORE Trophy Truck (14 racers), Trophy Truck Spec (6), Pro UTV FI (2) and Class 1 (2) along with one point leader from Class 10 (1).
Besides SCORE Trophy Truck, Trophy Truck Spec and Pro UTV FI the other two 2019 class point leaders in the top 25 in the 2019 SCORE Overall points are Brad Wilson, Long Beach, Calif. in the No. 100 Jimco-Chevy
(Class 1, tied for 23rd overall) who is tied for the Class 1 point lead with 179 points along with Justin Davis, Chino Hills, Calif., in the No. 185 Jimco-Chevy and Cody Reid, Apple Valley, Calif. in the No. 1068 Alumi Craft Chevy (Class 10, tied for 23rd overall with Wilson and Davis).

Among the other 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship class point leaders in Pro car/truck/UTV classes midway through the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship season are Scott Bailey, Riverside, Calif./Gustavo Vildosola Sr, Mexicali, Mexico (SCORE TT Legend, No. 1L Ford Raptor-ID), Dan Chamlee, Montecito, Calif. THE UNDEFEATED
Besides Andy McMillin (SCORE Trophy Truck) and the Justin Morgan 1x Motorcycle team, the only other class point leaders who have won both races to start the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship season are Giovanni Spinali (Pro Moto 50), Said Sanchez (Pro Quad) and Schane Schorno (SPT M/C).
GRAN HISTORIA
The first Baja 500 organized and produced by SCORE was held on July 26, 1974 as the first of over 150 SCORE Baja races. Ensenada is the heart and soul of the SCORE Baja races. Ensenada has hosted the start line 46 times and the finish line 42 times for the SCORE Baja 500.
