    ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—As the green flag gets closer to being dropped,
SCORE champion racers two Langley family racers from COPs Racing, B.J. Baldwin, brothers Alan and Aaron Ampudia, ‘Tres Amigos’ Freddie Willert, Stan Potter and Dan Worley along with Daniel Chamlee are among the latest entries for November’s iconic internationally-televised season-ending BFGoodrich Tires 53rd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, the final round of the pandemic-abbreviated two-race 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Starting and finishing under strict BioSecurity health and safety protocols in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, race-week festivities and the Granddaddy of All Desert Races itself will be held Nov. 17-22.
The SCORE Baja 1000 is at the pinnacle of motorsports as the most iconic, oldest, prestigious, toughest and longest continuously held desert race in the world.
Because of the Pandemic BioSecurity protocols, all race-week activities and the start/finish line area will be closed to the public. The start/finish line compound will be located East of downtown Ensenada at Dona Petra Canyon.
Spectators, adhering to the protocols, will be allowed to watch the race from around the race course.

53rd SCORE BAJA 1000
Many of the world’s best desert racers will be in action at this year’s massive BFGoodrich Tires 53rd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts. The race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour special on ABC TV’s World of X Games programming.
Ensenada, “The Off-Road Capital of the World” is a coastal city on the Bahia de Todos Santos area of the Pacific Ocean, 80 miles south of the U.S. border at San Diego.
Over 200 vehicles are expected at the start line with racers from nearly 30 U.S. States and as many as 15 countries anticipated. Long-time SCORE sponsor and race title sponsor BFGoodrich Tires has also posted a US$25,000 contingency bonus for the overall 4-wheel winner to help commemorate the renewal of this legendary SCORE race.
This year’s SCORE Baja 1000 will be a loop race of a spectacular 898.40 miles in the northern state of Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula. The distance is a race-record for a loop race.
It will start for the 46th time and finish for the 27th time in Ensenada and the race is annually the finale of the SCORE World Desert Championship, which has been held exclusively for the past five years in Baja California.
With a total time limit of 40 hours in the elapsed-time race, the motorcycle and quad classes will start at 4 a.m. (PT) on Friday, Nov. 20 and the car, truck and UTV classes will follow with their start on at 10 a.m. (PT).  While the fastest vehicles are expected to cover the course in approximately 18 hours, all vehicles will have 40 hours from the time each starts to become an official finisher.
COPs RACING
For this year’s SCORE Baja 1000, the Langley family has entered two of its stable of thoroughbred SCORE Trophy Trucks. From Manhattan Beach, Calif., COPs Racing will feature two powerful ES Motorsports-built race Trucks led by affable family patriarch John Langley, 77, who is also a legendary creator and executive producer of one of the most phenomenal TV shows in history, and his youngest son Zak Langley, 45.
Eldest son Morgan Langley, who normally races in the unlimited Class 1 is sitting this year’s race out.
Making their debut in the 2008 SCORE Baja 1000, COPs Racing has been a regular part of the SCORE World Desert Championship ever since. With multiple race wins between each of the drivers, COPs Racing was also selected the SCORE entry sponsor of the year in both 2009 and 2010.
COPs Racing has also sponsored several other vehicles over the years that are part of the official race team.
For the 53rd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, John Langley, one of just two SCORE racers with a Star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame, will debut his new ESM-built No. 50L COPs Racing Ford F-150 in the SCORE TT Legend class for SCORE Trophy Truck drivers over 50 years old.
John Langley has put together the proverbial ‘Dream Team’ of four drivers for his No. 50L for this race. Sharing wheel time with him will be AMA motocross Hall of Famer Ricky Johnson, 57, Encinitas, Calif., five-time SCORE Baja 1000 champion and Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Larry Ragland, Cave Creek, Ariz., and Clark County (Nev.) and regular COPs racing driver Sheriff Joe Lombardo, 58, Las Vegas.
Zak Langley will drive the No. 50 COPs Racing Ford F-150 (ESM built) in SCORE Trophy Truck.
Veteran SCORE Baja motorcycle champion Steve Hengeveld, 44, Flagstaff, Ariz., who has 12 class wins in the SCORE Baja 1000 will be his second driver. Third driver for Zak Langley will be veteran Paul Keller, El Cajon, Calif., who is normally the second-driver for Morgan Langley in Class 1.
BALDWIN
Las Vegas’ popular ‘Ballistic’ B.J. Baldwin, 41, is a four-time SCORE Trophy Truck season point champion, having won the crown in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
Baldwin, whose famous father Las Vegas casino executive Bobby Baldwin raced up until 2012, won both the 2012 and the 2013 SCORE Baja 1000 races while driving solo.
Overall Baldwin has six career SCORE Trophy Truck race victories.
He has also earned four Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards for completing every required mile in the SCORE racing season (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013).
Subject of several vastly popular Monster Energy YouTube short films, Baldwin drives the No. 97 Monster Energy Toyota Tundra built by ID Designs.
AMPUDIA BROS
Mexico’s Alan Ampudia, 29 and his brother Aaron Ampudia, 27, both from Ensenada, captured last year’s SCORE Baja 1000 and will be sharing driving duties together again in next month’s race. The Ampudia brothers race in the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division in their No. 10 Papas & Beer Ford Raptor built by ID Designs.
Mexico’s Alan Ampudia, 29 and his brother Aaron Ampudia, 27, both from Ensenada, captured last year’s SCORE Baja 1000 and will be sharing driving duties together again in next month’s race. They brothers finished fourth in September’s SCORE Baja 500 held in San Felipe.
‘TRES AMIGOS’
Definitely a trio with a multitude of years of SCORE Baja racing experience with a combined 165 years in age between them, ‘Tres Amigos’ Freddie Willert, 51, El Cajon, Calif. is driver of record and his additional compadres San Potter, 56, San Marcos, Calif. and Dan Worley, 58, Encinitas, Calif. are moving up a class after winning the SCORE Lite season point title in 2019.
After several years away from the sport, the trio returned full-time in 2017 and finished seventh in the SCORE Lite points with one race win. In 2018, the talented trio finished fourth in the SCORE Lite points before last year’s championship season in SCORE Lite where they won the SCORE San Felipe 250, the SCORE Baja 400 and the SCORE Baja 1000.
With the team’s Jimco-VW race car sitting quietly for nearly a decade, the team actually won their class (SCORE Lites) in the 50th SCORE Baja 1000 in 2017.
All three of them have raced in several different SCORE classes over the years and Worley won the 1992 Pro Moto 30 season points.
For 2020, the ‘tres amigos’ have moved up to Class 10 where they will split the driving in their No. 1006 Alumi Craft-Chevy, which is shod with BFGoodrich Tires, King Shocks and Raceline Wheels.
HONOR ROLL
SCORE veteran champion racer Daniel Chamlee, 58 of Montecito, Calif., has captured 15 career SCORE season class point championships in Class 7 (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
He is tied for second in SCORE history for all-time season class titles.
Chamlee has also earned nine class wins (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018) in the SCORE Baja 500 in his illustrious career in his No. 700 Factory Racing Ford Ranger.
He has also raced his way to six career Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by VP Racing Fuels, given to racers who complete every required race mile for the season.
STATES, COUNTRIES
     Included in the first 101 official entry applications so far of the more than 200 anticipated for this year’s renewal of the world’s most iconic desert race are racers from 22 U.S. States and 10 countries.
U.S. States represented in the field of competitors to date are from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Besides the United States and host Mexico, countries represented to date in the total entry field are from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Ireland, Netherlands and South Africa.
PRE-RUNNING
Pre-running on the official loop-race record 898.40-mile race course opened this past Saturday. The course runs in a counter-clockwise direction after the two-way section to the Ojos Negros area and down along the Pacific Ocean and around San Felipe and the Sea of Cortez before heading back up through Cordillera de Molina and back to Ojos Negro and the finish in Ensenada.
Pre-running starts at race-mile 33.53 and finishes at rm864.87. The first 33.53 miles of the course, which will be run in both directions during the race, will be open for pre-running outbound only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or race week (Nov. 17-19).
The challenging race course then winds its way through four of Baja California’s infamously magnificent washes: Amarillas, Chanate, Huatamote and Matomi before heading through the San Felipe area along the Sea of Cortez and West through Cordillera de Molina and then back to Ojos Negros to the finish just on the Eastern outskirts in Ensenada.
The start/finish line compound, closed to the public because of established safety and health protocols, will be located on the outskirts of Ensenada, east of downtown, at Dona Petra Canyon.
There are four physical full-stop checkpoints and 355 numbered virtual checkpoints. Physical checkpoints: CP1-El Socorro (race mile 206.60), CP2-Valle de Trinidad (rm407.95), CP3-End of Matomi Wash (rm602.85) and CP 4-El Alamo (rm838.50). The race route also has a total of 20 Speed Zones.
All Sportsman classes along with Pro classes 7SX, 11 and 9 will run a reduced course of 767.06 miles.

BIOSECURITY PROTOCOLS
As was the case at the recent SCORE Baja 500, significant BioSecurity health and safety protocols are being finalized by SCORE and the government authorities and health officials to be implemented at the event. With everything still fluid in regards to this pandemic, the specific protocols for this race are the same as what was mandated for September’s SCORE Baja 500.
No spectators will be allowed to attend pre-race contingency, the start or the finish of the race itself. Spectators will be allowed to watch the race around the course, following BioSecurity protocol requirements.

ABC TV NETWORK AGAIN IN 2020
For the second straight year, the 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship will air on the ABC family of networks. The two-races will air as specials on ABC TV Network's World of X Games program with replays on ESPN2.
ABC first covered the 1967 and 1968 Baja 1000 races on the old ABC Wide World of Sports show with Jim McKay and again in the late 1980s with veteran motorsports journalist Sam Posey.
All of the SCORE race coverage shows also continue to air internationally in nearly 25 countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and South America via syndication and ESPN International. The shows are co-produced by SCORE International and SoCal’s award-winning BCII TV.
