points midway thru in 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship

ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Midway through the season, five prominent companies have produced enough capable products to lead their respective SCORE Manufacturer point standings in the four-race 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Leading their respective divisions in the 2022 SCORE Manufacturer point standings are Polaris RZR Off-Road, Mason Motorsports, Dougans Racing Engines, KTM North America motorcycles and Alumi Craft Race Cars, names all very prominent in the international world of desert racing.
POLARIS—SCORE UTV MANUFACTURER POINT LEADER
In the eighth year decided by points, Polaris RZR Industries (Off-Road) leads the 2022 SCORE UTV Manufacturer points for the eighth straight year. Polaris has 253 total points in the Manufacturer’s tally so far this season.
Helping Polaris lead 2022 SCORE UTV Manufacturer points to date are three individual class point leaders in Mike Cafro, Temecula, Calif. (Pro UTV Open), Justin Lambert, Bakersfield, Calif. (Pro UTV FI) and Joe Bolton, Corona, Calif. (Pro UTV NA).
Polaris is the official UTV of the SCORE World Desert Championship.
MASON—SCORE ORIGINAL TRUCK CHASSIS MANUFACTURER LEADER
Manufacturer point leaders this year are led Mason Motorsports of Lake Elsinore, who have slowly burst onto the scene building all-wheel drive SCORE Trophy Trucks among many other classes of vehicles. After two races, they have already tallied 203 total points.
In 2021, it was their first SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year award after a six-year run by Geiser Brothers since voting started in this category in 2015.
Founded in 2004 by brothers Neal and Robert Mason, Mason Motorsports is producing some amazing AWD trucks. Leading the way to date for Mason are Christopher Polvoorde, Hemet, Calif. who leads the SCORE Overall points and the Trophy Truck Spec class and San Diego’s Luke McMillin, winner of the season-opening SCORE San Felipe 250, is second in SCORE Trophy Truck points and fifth in SCORE Overall points.
DOUGANS—SCORE ENGINE BUILDER POINT LEADER
Earning their fifth SCORE Engine Builder of the Year point championship in 2021, Dougans Racing Engines won the points in this award category for the fifth time in the last seven years.
They have now started the 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship by leading the division points after the first two races of the year with 221 points to date.
Based in Riverside, Calif., Ray Field’s Dougans Racing Engines had their finest SCORE season ever, earning 399 total points to earn the 2021 Award. Field has been a part of Dougans since 1980.
Among the racers using Dougans engines that have helped build a massive point lead are Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies in SCORE Trophy Truck and Mexico’s Gus Vildosola Sr, who has won both races this year in the SCORE TT Legend class for drivers 50 years and older.
Eight racers with Dougans’ engines have earned top three podium finishes in their respective classes so far this season.
KTM—SCORE MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER LEADER
KTM North America leads the SCORE Motorcyle Manufacturer point standings with 151 season points while looking to unseat perennial SCORE moto leader Honda motorcycles.
Helping put KTM on top of the current point standings are a pair of SCORE international racers, Juan Carlos Salvatierra and Jano Montoya.
Both with two race wins to start the 2022 season, Bolivia’s Salvatierra leads the featured Pro Moto Unlimited class points while Peru’s Montoya, who lives in Winter Garden, Fla., is leading the Pro Moto 30 class for riders 30 years and older.
Including the 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship, Honda has won the SCORE Motorcycle Manufacturer of the Year award an unprecedented 28 times.
KTM is hoping to secure its sixth all-time SCORE Motorcycle Manufacturer of the Year award and first since 2020.
ALUMI CRAFT—SCORE ORIGINAL OPEN-WHEEL CHASSIS MANUFACTURER LEADER
Based in Santee, Calif., John Cooley’s Alumi Craft won the Open Wheel Chassis Manufacturer point championship for the third time in 2021, all in the last six years.  Founded in 2004, more and more Alumi Craft vehicles continue to appear on SCORE race entry lists.
In 2022, helping lead Alumi Craft to the front of their division are the top three point leaders in the Class 10—Ivan Tagle, Chula Vista, Calif, Justin Buckley, Long Beach, Calif. and J. David Ruvalcabe, Ensenada, Mexico. So far, Alumi Craft has 200 points while long-time winner Jimco is currently a distant second with 52 points.
HOW THE POINTS ARE DETERMINED
SCORE calculates Manufacturer points on a modified version of the formula used for individual racers. For manufacturer points, podium finishers who have identified their manufacturer on their entry form, receive manufacturer points based on the number of starters within each class in the specific category.
